I would be happy to collaborate on a TriLUG theme although this probably
wouldn't be that useful unless people start giving TriLUG presentations
outside of the group.
If you're looking for traditional GUI presentation creator, look at
Calligra Stage <http://www.calligra.org/stage/>. I believe that they have
been doing work on themes, in particular so that a theme can be shared (to
the extent that that makes sense) between the presentation and the
word-processed notes written in Calligra Words.
Tangent: for people who need to create research posters, there is also
beamerposter.
