It's a discussion list, meant to foster discussion among those that subscribe.   If you want to discuss with just one person the burden is on you to do the right thing.  Yes it's embarrassing when you do the wrong thing.  But I haven't seen any instances of people accidentally forgetting to reply to just the poster instead of the list, that hurt anything but one's pride.


In short, keep things the way they are.   There isn't a convincing argument to change to reply to poster given the intent of the list.
