[TriLUG] dpkg repository documentation

I am trying (and failing) to find documentation that defines how
dpkg-style repositories should be structured.  Rather than just use a
tool to generate a repository, I want to understand what the standard
is.  Can you point me to any sources?

Here is what I have found of value:

- obsolete docs:

- secure apt docs: http://wiki.debian.org/SecureApt

Otherwise there are lots of docs about using tools to generate a
repository, but nothing I have found defines what constitutes a valid
repository.
