it seems to have two modes. One if you haven't used it for a 
couple of minutes, in which case it takes about a second of 
moving, before the cursor moves. The other, if you walk away 
for half an hour or so, when you have to use a regular mouse 
to wake up the screen and then run hidd --search again.
