I have a Microsoft tray under my HP laptop. Same as this:

With the tray fan running the cpu temperature runs 4 to 5 degrees C cooler.
In Electronics land, thats a lot.
One of my co-workers used a separate fan placed next to the exhaust port to
lower CPU temps.
