Pete, we are actually saying the same thing, but glad you clarified if
my comments were unclear.

The 2A power supply is more than adequate for any directly attached
USB peripherals that will "actually work" with the Raspberry Pi. Pete
is very correct that you will need a powered hub for many USB
peripherals, specifically hard drives, some USB WiFis, and even some
keyboards (I had one that would cause the RPi's Ethernet to stop
working when plugged in).

I don't have a USB Wifi on mine as I plug the Ethernet into my laptop
and route the connection through the laptop's WiFi and set it up to
use a static IP. That allows me to plug my RPi into my laptop and just
ssh in and then connect back through the laptop. With that setup, I
don't have a mouse or keyboard or WiFi and I can power my RPi directly
off my laptop's USB. I would be careful doing that though, as there
are reports of people burning out the USB on their laptop attempting
that, but it works fine for me.

And remember ... tomorrow is Pi day, so go order an RPi and grab a
slice a pie...
