Keep the B WAP for all your B Devices, then get a G or N router (N is
backwards compatible to G) for your other traffic. If you have ANY B
traffic on the G/N network ALL your devices have to fall back to B (11mbps
max!).

Because of the construction question, don't get low end, cheap router. If
you plan on getting N at some point, go for a Dual Band, then you can
isolate your G traffic on the 2.4GHz band and use A/N on the 5GHz band (for
the same reason as isolating B).

Also, just because they're currently connected individually, doesn't mean
you won't have other devices that you will want to connect. Besides the 3
Wifi computers surrounding me at my desk, my wife has a laptop, the kids
have their laptops, the Wii, the Roku, the Smart Phones, and the Android
Tablet all connect at the same time here.

I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833162070 early
this year, it came preloaded with DDWRT, has a built in 4 port gigabit
switch. It's reliable, and covers both floors of my older house well and
into the yard for the tree-canopy home office, despite being on the ground
level at the far end of the house.

Don't spend extra money for WAPs, all Routers can be placed into Access
Point mode if you really don't want to use it's router capabilities.
