Perhaps I should clarify that I was referring to the licensing issues
between ZFS and the Linux kernel that make it so that ZFS can't be
distributed together with the kernel. I am aware of ZFS On Linux[0] as
well as the Fuse version, but at this time I'd prefer to rule those out
for my own purposes.
I was hoping that there would be something that could be used with any
filesystem, or perhaps with filesystems that offer extended attributes, to
record checksums and dates for the purposes of detecting unintended
changes. If not, it seems achievable to write something to do this.
