IPv6 to the rescue. Set up an AYIYA tunnel with SixXS and get it running on
the machine at the hotel. Then set up a second such tunnel on the laptop at
the coffee shop. Now both machines have public IPv6 addresses that are not
subject to the restriction of the hotel's network (as far as it's
concerned, the traffic is just regular UDP).
As an alternative, I believe the TriLUG server has IPv6 access so he'd just
ssh to there, then from there to his machine at the hotel. This way only
one AYIYA tunnel is required.
