acquired by Quintiles Transnational. The particular group that I work in
(Statistics and Bioinformatics) is seeking a Scientific Programmer, the
primary qualifications for which include Linux and programming expertise.

Description



PURPOSE



Provide technical expertise to develop and maintain programs to meet
internal and external clients’ needs in a scientific computing environment.



RESPONSIBILITIES

•Deliver scientific data to research clients, especially large-scale
genomic sequencing data.
•Develop and maintain automated programs that assist in the delivery of
large-scale genomic sequencing data.
•Develop and maintain meta-data to assist with understanding the quality of
the data generated and the data that is being or has been delivered
•Migrate large scale data to hard disks for shipping to clients.
•Maintain focus on project deadlines to ensure timely delivery of data.
•Procure resources needed for timely data delivery (oversee purchase of
flash drives/hard drives/small NAS).
•Respond to client requests regarding data and data delivery.
•Provide expertise to internal and external clients and offer solutions to
project needs.
•May be required to understand budget and quote assumptions.

Qualifications



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



•Foundational knowledge in Linux/UNIX-based systems as well as basic HW-S/W
interfaces, storage, networking
•Knowledge of computing languages such as C/C++, Perl, Shell scripting
within Bash environment or similar general purpose programming languages
•Working knowledge of SQL databases (e.g. SQL-lite, PostgreSQL) is
preferred
•Working knowledge of genetics/bioinformatics is preferred
•Good organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
•Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and projects.
•Knowledge of sequencing data is preferred
•Strong attention to detail
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
coworkers, managers and clients.

•Must be fluent in English (writing/speaking)



MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Bachelor's degree or educational equivalent in computer science or related
field; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
