If you're interested in learning more about amateur "ham" radio, there
is a class coming up where you can earn your own radio license. There's
a lot of cool things you can do with an amateur license, and there are
several hams in the LUG. Contact info is at the bottom of the message
below.

A course has been scheduled with the Red Cross and is open to the
public. It will be August 17, 24,31 at the Red Cross office near Wake
Med Hospital (on New Bern Avenue) at 100 Peachtree Lane. The sessions
will begin at 8:00 AM and end around 12:00 noon. The first session is
Orientation which will include registration and books will be closer to
2 hours. The second session will be the first five chapters of the
manual and the third session will cover the remainder of the manual.
The fee is $30.00 including the required current manual (the ARRL Ham
Radio License Manual - Technician) and if you already have this manual
the fee is $10.00.
A voluntary examination is scheduled for the afternoon of the third
session. You are not required to take the test then and other
examination sessions will be held periodically by RARS and other clubs.
There is a separate fee of $14.00. It is suggested that you get an FRN
before the exam - this will be explained at orientation.
PLEASE:
1. Let me know if you plan to attend.
2. Let me know if you need a manual.
3. Have exact money for the fees.
4. If you are on the contact list and not planning to attend, do you
still want to be on the contact list ?
