+1 on cygwin. I use ssh, rsync, smb on win7 all the time. Cygwin is the first think I load on any windows box I manage.

As far as important Win7 files are concerned, I am not sure what you mean. For the OS we keep images for building machines to standard configs.

Look into Cygwin. It lets you load all sorts of neat Unixy utilities, SSH
servers, rsync, duplicity, etc.
