Tim,

From my perspective Python is one of the most rapidly growing solutions out there. The classes that are created for Python are unbelievable and the number of HUGE software solutions that are including Python as an API into their software is growing too. I will not even go into the maker community that seems to be making Python the default development platform because of it's rapid development methods.

I still do not know Python well, but will most likely be learning it soon, because the largest software provider of Electrical Grid communication among Duke/Progress and all the rest of the Electrical providers that need to connect with each other, has announced Python as the direction they are moving for an API.

In short it is not just a scripting engine anymore, it is much much more. It seems to me to be a blob that is absorbing and consolidating many other software tools into a common interface. This is the trend today, I remember when Java was in a similar position, but without the ability to blob in so many tools with it's restrictive architecture. I actually see a trend of Java being pulled back in favor of Python as an API. I think Python will be on a long growth stretch like Java was in 2000 until now.

Time will tell.
