I am very hesitant to comment on this thread: it does not appear to be
related to Linux at all. I'm hoping that this will transform into a
discussion about OpenWRT :-)

You are not alone with the Uverse 2wire PCI Compliance problems [1].

If you are an AT&T Uverse business customer you should be getting
better tech support regarding PCI Compliance issues when using their
equipment. If you are a home user, your terms of use probably exclude
commercial use and you will be out of luck.

>From what I have found via google, you can't put this Gateway Router
(GR) into bridge mode, but you can put it into DMZPlus mode [2] which
gives your personal router the public IP address. I have no idea if
this leaves the GR ports exposed to the internet or not.

Your customer will have to consider their options for getting back
into PCI Compliance.
 * Move to AT&T business internet (no idea if this is any better)
 * Move to a different ISP which supports bridge mode
 * tunnel/VPN all credit card processing traffic via a secure endpoint IP
 * Discontinue storage of CC info on Uverse connected computers
