I would definitely do the VPN solution. Basically, go grab a $5/month
Digital Ocean virtual server and set up OpenVPN on it. Then connect from
your workstation to the DO box, and do your work. I believe this should
work out just fine.

If OpenVPN is not your thing and your work needs are simple, an SSH tunnel
might also do the trick.
