In my experience k5start 
<http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/kstart/k5start.html> is the right 
way™ to get and maintain tickets. Essentially instead of just starting 
your daemon, you start k5start passing to it as an option your daemon 
command line which it will run after obtaining tickets. k5start will 
handle all the busywork of waking up periodically to renew ticket and 
running a command after ticket acquisition if required.
