I have been using many Jeff's techniques for years (and in my opinion it should 
be required reading if you're running an apache system.)   If you take the 
time to implement the .htaccess suggestions presented there, it will eliminate 
many issues with breakin attempts and script kiddies; as well as make your 
life a lot better...

BTW: I'll also put in a shameless plug for Jeffs new book ".htaccess made 
easy". :)
