[TriLUG] Linux phone OS?

Hi,

   Has anyone loaded a non-Google Linux phone OS and been able to make
phone calls? E.g. if Ubuntu would load on my LG Optimus L9 and I could
still use it as a phone then I'd be delighted. Or even some of my old
Android 2.x phones.

Any luck/experience trying this?
