From every account I have read, Google is not trying to take over the (ISP) world. The idea is simply to give the other ISP's a kick in the pants by giving them some real competition for once. In some places Google Fiber started, ISP's such as Cox and AT&T are suddenly rolling out plans to offer Gigabit access, when before they were capped in the 65 Mbps range. In other words, if you are happy with TWC or AT&T, prepare for free speed upgrades. If you are ready to jump ship, you are about to gain an option.
