Well, it really boils down to whether he has free space in the
volume group. If he does he can expand a logical volume live.
Shrinking is doable but require more steps.
Crap. I just realized the free space he wants is already in the
ubuntu-vg volume group. Shame on me! Still, if he run those commands
and gives the results we can explain the shape of the beast including
which partition is being used for the physical volume.
So, he should be good to go.
MvER: If you let Ubuntu partition your HD and do the LVM thingie, it
will create an extended partition, sda5, in sda2. Annoying like hell
in my book but that is me. I also have a thing against adding the
volume group name to the logical volume since even df can tell you
that.
Once you give the output for the two commands we can talk about
resizing the logical volumes. Unfortunately I only know how to do that
from command line, so if you need to do it in the GUI someone else on
the list will have to help you out.
