Thanks, You are right, it is Windows client that was crashing. I am thankful enough to not have to use the windows client but on rare occasion and the client is probably close to 2 years old at this point. The linux client has been solid.
I appreciate the advice.

Regarding x2go Window's client & abandoned/crashed sessions.

The x2go windows client  uses VcXsrv xwindow system instead of xming due to
open source licensing & features etc.

You might want to check the VcXsrv bug reports to see if something there
sounds related to your problem - https://sourceforge.net/p/vcxsrv/bugs/

I'd also highly recommend sending an email to the x2go users mailer list:
x2go-user at lists.x2go.org

The developers as well as many experienced x2go users are very active on it
answering
questions.
