Most repeaters are fairly quiet during the day. There's usually bursts
of traffic during commute times.
Around UNC:
442.150+PL131 is "The Blowtorch", sitting 1000' up the WUNC-TV tower
just inside Chatham County. This is run by the Orange County Radio
Amateurs (OCRA).
147.225+ (no PL) is the Durham FM Association (DFMA) repeater on a tower
on I-40 near Hillsborough. There is also a DMR and 220 repeater on that
tower.
There were a couple repeaters on UNC campus also run by OCRA, but the
building they were in is being renovated so they got the boot. They may
return some day.
I recommend repeaterbook.com for finding more repeaters as it has a
proximity search and it seems to get updated fairly often.
We also have the Linux ham mailing list at
http://www.trilug.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-ham , though it doesn't get
much traffic. If you're into IRC, see also #trilug-ham on Freenode.
