Consider regressing to 16.04 (LTS). It's not end of life until 2021. Maybe it'll be fired by then?

Subject: [TriLUG] Trying to copy files to a flash drive...

So I tried out Ubuntu 18.04. I'd heard it was buggy, but it has exceeded
expectation. While trying to copy some error logs to a flash drive -
because the network isn't working - I keep getting this error message:

cp: cannot create regular file './asdf': Numerical result out of range

Googling around shows very little, and none of it related to copying files
or flash drives. Any ideas?
