[TriLUG] Brother inkjet printer - not working

I have a Brother printer, Model MFC-5860CN, color inkjet printer with
multi-sheet feeder, scanner, fax, copy and print facilities, IOW, the works.

It is old (maybe 10 years?)
It will no longer do anything, on two separate computers.
It reports: "Print Unable 50"  see trouble shooters guide....
No button causes anything to happen. No paper seems to be jammed.

One vendor says Brother printers cannot be repaired - cannot get parts.

new printers are available at $60 and up. All that is needed is simple
BW printing or color printing.

Anyone out there want to save this critter from going to the
dump/recycle places, or make it work and get paid for that?

Current location - close to Meredith College, but can meet elsewhere.
