[TriLUG] Ideas for Replacing Home Office Workhorse Computer?

If the RDSon is low enough, the port could draw enough power to shut down
the power supply, shutting things down before any action could be taken to
turn it off. (I say, hypothetically.) It happened a while back, and it
was a pretty old laptop at the time (Dell if I recall correctly), so maybe
things weren't advanced enough back then to deal with a short.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get your computer
resuscitated.
