I add my support to this idea. The other responder knew the tools better
than I do. But the less damage you do to the original hard drive, the
better. (Especially if there is a fixable, software error, like occurred
at a Friend's House with a 2T External Spinning Hard Drive. Seems he liked
the quick way to power his Debian Buster Laptop down, by holding the Power
Button! Ouch!)
