I'm not part of the unit responsible, so I can't claim good experience
or solid recommendation, but this is the managed wordpress hosting
service that UNC-CH uses for the main www.unc.edu site:

I think you're going to have to clarify "lack of the need to host the
full domain" for folks. Do you mean you have www.example.org that
you'll continue to manage, but you want to host blog.example.org with
this managed service provider? Or do you mean something else?
