[TriLUG] Linux driver issues

I have purchased a netbook that is missing drivers for the WIFI and Audio
chipsets.

The WIFI chip is supported in a PCIe configuration, but it shows up as
attached in a USB configuration. Does anyone have pointers on how to
convert or extend a PCIe driver to work with in a USB configuration? It's a
Realtek 8273de chip. The vendor prefix changed between configurations, so
it's not recognized by the kernel. Alternatively, is it possible to use
udev rules to rewrite the ID so that the kernel sees it as PCIe?

The Audio chipset has drivers but no firmware, but the driver won't land
until 5.18 or so. Does anyone have a favorite document on how to build a
github kernel source tree in a similar fashion to Ubuntu's generic kernel?
