I think there's some wisdom here. Local LUGs are perhaps fading in
their relevance to an extent. Not completely, of course, and there are
also still auto clubs. But Linux is not the walled garden it once was;
so-inclined hobbyists can get very very far these days with $50 in
hardware and an internet connection. The camaraderie and feeling of
belonging are still high-value prospects, but the wisdom we've
historically shared among ourselves is now much easier to find with a
quick query to a search engine than it once was.
I haven't tried to contact the Steering Committee lately, but it's
definitely a problem if that isn't easy to do. Ham-to-spam is a
cop-out, IMO; we all deal with spam on all our e-mail accounts and there
are very effective mechanisms to fight it. I would submit that it's
part of the Steering Committee's job to be easily-reached. So that
needs to be fixed.
As far as website content...I can't throw too many stones, as my own
websites are hopelessly derelict. But up-to-date meeting information
and viable SC contact info shouldn't be too much to ask. Perhaps
something could be set up whereby the updating of website meeting info
and the sending of meeting reminder e-mails are both effected by a
single action. I don't know if WordPress is a dirty word around these
parts, but I bet it has a plugin that would do the trick of creating a
blog post and sending out an e-mail in one shot.
Anyhoo, I like that TriLUG exists, but I'm also not a very active
member, so please take all of my commentary with a heap of salt. I'd
still hate to see it die.

-Brian
