The TriLUG ad-hoc picnic committee, having heard on the mailing list,
the lamentations and wailings of the common people,
that we don't get together anymore, has been moved by your plight
and has promulgated a pot-luck picnic

when:

Thurs 20 Jun 2024, 6-8pm
(near the solstice, it will still be light at 9pm when you get home)

where:

Cardinal Shelter,
Crowder County Park,
4709 Ten-Ten Rd, Apex, NC

(The date and site were constrained by the lack of availabilty
at Crabtree Lake, so Crowder County Park it was.)

location map:

cost:

free (gratis and libre)

facilities:

You have a lake/pond, a shelter (event will go even if it rains),
BBQ fireplace (on a stand, hip height),
3 tables with room for 50 people, and good company.
Dogs are allowed on a 6' leash.
There are slides and a children's play area.
(bring the spouse, kids and dog.)

You're in the woods in summer - plan for mosquitoes (bring DEET).

The committee will supply:

plastic table cloths, plastic ware, napkins/paper towels,
soda/ice (diet and obesity producing), name tags,
charcoal (and lighter fluid), DEET and trashbags.

your part:

You need to supply food
(for those living in their mother's basement,
pick it up on the way,
from the prepared food section of your grocery store).
Bring a serving of something for 6 people.
We're not going to organise this:
If everyone brings ice cream, then we'll eat icecream.

obligatory performance art:

Everyone will be given 1 minute (exactly) in turn,
to tell the story of how they came to run Linux for the first time.
You can bring visual aids if you wish.
The ad-hoc committee will time performers
and people going over the 1 minute limit will not be tolerated.
Please remember, for that minute,
you are the entertainment for the crowd,
so practice your 1 minute spiel
(you want them bored to death by a floundering delivery?).

optional:

bring artifacts to show that you have a life
and what you're doing with your spare time
and that you don't spend all your time on the TriLUG mailing list.
It doesn't have to be Linux or computing.
Just something to give people ideas
and let them know what you do with your life.

lastly:

please let Joe (jmack at trilug.org) know that you're coming (and how many),
so we get an approximate idea of what we need to bring for you.
(If you change your mind at the last minute,
I'm not going to hold you to it.)
Reply ***off-list*** with Subject "Picnic: X people"
and your name in an empty body of e-mail.

Otherwise questions and suggestions welcome
(both to us privately or to the TriLUG mailing list).
