SSHFS using ssh keys and you can put it into systemd too. I have also used autossh to keep port forwards open smb/cifs and it still allows me to do it with keys and keep it under the ssh security scheme. But that is what I use over wan. If it is all local, I have set up automount for smb/cifs and had good results. I have rarely used nfs in my career, but when I did, it worked fine for the most part.
