I've written the following article for my web site. It'll be posted
Thursday morning. Please let me know if I should make any changes. If it
looks good, I'll submit it to local media outlets in various formats.

This loses the formatting and links but you get the idea.

There's an interesting new movement gearing up as Win10 nears the end of it's supported lifecycle. It's called, "End of 10..." which is an obvious reference to the aforementioned EOL. the following is part of a press release from the End of 10... organization.

The end (of Windows 10) is nigh!

Publication time May 28, 2025

Today we're launching "End Of 10" (endof10.org) and bringing Linux to Windows 10 users!

On 14 October 2025, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10. Microsoft will no longer provide updates for the system and this will turn an estimated 200 to 400 million laptops and computers worldwide into security risks and heavily polluting e-waste.

Yours may be one of them.

...

The End Of 10 campaign has identified 5 reasons to upgrade to Linux:

No New Hardware, No Licensing Costs -- A new laptop costs a lot of money, but several Linux operating systems are available for free. Software updates are also free, forever. You can of course show your support with donations!

Enhanced Privacy -- Windows comes with lots of ads and spyware. This slows down your computer, lets companies spy on you, and increases your energy bills.

Good For The Planet -- Production of a computer accounts for 75+% of carbon emissions over its lifecycle. Keeping a functioning device longer is a hugely effective way to reduce emissions. With a Linux operating system you can use your device longer.

Community & Professional Support -- There are local repair cafes and independent, professional services and computer shops available for providing you help. You can find support in online forums, too.

Better User Control -- Linux grants you the four freedoms of software. You are free to use, study, share, and improve the program, for as long as you wish. You are in control of your device.

The End of 10... organization is coordinating events world-wide to assist users in moving from Windows to Linux for those 5 reasons.

The local Linux users group here in the RTP area, The Triangle Linux Users Group, TriLUG, is having a related event where people can learn how to get another 6 years or more out of their computers with Linux.

We only want your name and, if you are OK with sharing your email address, that too, so we can send you a copy of the materials we'll use during the session. We won't share it with anyone else, send any emails or marketing materials, sell it, or use it in any other way. But just your name will do.
