I use DuoCircle's Outbound SMTP service at the free level for my self-hosted email server.  It works 
great and I've had almost no issues with deliverability.  Just have to get all the DMARC, SPF, etc. 
stuff sorted.  DuoCircle's tenant platform and docs made that very easy.
