Why do you want to run windows apps on windows in the first place? It would be more efficent to just use Linux native apps, right?
There are unfortunate times when that's not possible, though. However, when migrating or seeking compatibility that's not available under Limnux yet, it can be a fine solutions
Of course, in the past, dual boot was the only option. Soon, though VMWare ad WINE came onto the scene, and were able to help quite a bit.
