CRISIS PREVENTION TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. By what procedure can students let someone know if they have concerns that another student might be troubled or potentially dangerous to himself/herself or others? We hope that students will come up with these points, but if they do not, please remind them: -NCSSM students are encouraged to talk to their counselors, or any NCSSM adults, regarding concerns about other students. The names of any reporting students will be kept confidential. -Time and time again in the aftermath of school tragedies, guilt-ridden students are always struggling with the feeling, "If only I had told someone, this might have never happened." 2. What are your thoughts regarding the tragedy that occurred last Tuesday in Columbine High School in Colorado? How did it make you feel? 3. How can the school respond to students who may feel left out or troubled? What can we do to make students feel supported, included, and safe? In this discussion, please make sure that students: -Are aware that there is a Crisis Plan in place which would allow faculty and staff to address the needs of students in the time of a crisis. -Share their suggestions or ideas of what they think might need to be included in that plan.
