17:36:14 <Tribot> Meeting started Mon May 13 17:36:14 2019 UTC. The chair is raub. Information about MeetBot at http://wiki.debian.org/MeetBot.
17:36:14 <Tribot> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #help #info #idea #link #topic.
17:36:31 <raub> #topic 1. Check for Agenda Additions
17:36:36 <raub> Anyone?
17:37:03 <raub> Then we go onto
17:37:07 <raub> #topic 2. Current Topics
17:37:46 <raub> So Donald has stepped down and we have a new officer. And we will need his email and irc handle
17:38:01 <mamarley> That's me. "michael@michaelmarley.com"
17:38:45 <raub> So Marley is your last name?
17:38:51 <raub> Let me email you the agenda
17:38:54 <mamarley> Correct.
17:39:30 <raub> You are not receiving the steering emails already, right?
17:39:37 <mamarley> I don't believe so.
17:39:44 <raub> OK, we will take care of that
17:40:04 <raub> But for now you will get the agenda in a few
17:40:37 <mamarley> Got it.
17:41:02 <raub> So, we will have an all-officer meeting sometime to "pass the batton" and do some planning for next year
17:41:12 <raub> WHen depends on when everyone can show up
17:41:39 <raub> Location can be in a restaurant or wherever place we can get
17:41:54 <raub> One time we did meet at RH
17:43:21 <raub> mamarley: I will add you to the steering list after the meeting
17:43:30 <mamarley> OK, thanks!
17:43:41 <raub> I will also give you access to the steering wiki
17:44:20 <raub> You will notice I put links to it in each agenda email but try to mention the most important points in it too
17:44:32 <raub> We also have a meetup page; I will add you to it
17:44:47 <raub> Probably there are other things I am forgetting
17:45:26 <raub> But you can at least have an idea of what we have so far scheduled for talks for the rest of the year
17:45:28 <raub> and events
17:45:57 <raub> I think we are better than last year but we can do better.
17:46:03 <raub> which leads too
17:46:09 <raub> #topic 3. Future Topics
17:46:52 <raub> So, next month we will have not only a 2-speaker meeting but also South East Linux Fest
17:47:13 <raub> We have a table and need bodies to man it.
17:47:42 <raub> I should be there on Friday to set it up; Lauren will be there too since he has a place to stay for the entire event
17:47:49 <mamarley> I can do that, as long as I can find a hotel that isn't too expensive and has a place to charge my EV.
17:48:03 <raub> I am trying to figure out how many days I can be there
17:48:49 <raub> mamarley: you can just go for one day or the entire event. We just need to figure out who will be there when.
17:49:23 <raub> Also, you might want to figure out which talks you want to attend and coordinate so the table never stays empty
17:49:40 <raub> I will order tonight more stickers
17:49:41 <mamarley> I went to the website earlier today to try to do that, but it seemed down.
17:50:23 <raub> Yeah, they are having some issues. bdmc and Lauren might be able to get the schedule as needed.
17:51:14 <raub> Do you have one of the trilug shirts?
17:51:22 * mamarley does not.
17:51:42 <raub> You may want to order one
17:52:10 <raub> Unfortunately we cannot afford to give them out yet :(
17:52:23 <mamarley> Sure, I will do that in a bit.
17:53:48 <raub> About the normal meetings, we try to have someone there at least before 6:30 to setup tables and start catherding
17:54:22 <mamarley> Meow?
17:54:32 <raub> If you noticed, we seem to still need speakers for Oct and Nov. bdmc might have someone for Oct
17:54:57 <raub> mamarley: pretty much. IMHO, herding cats sometimes is easier ;)
17:55:07 <mamarley> I would like to see Jim Salter give another talk at some point. His talks are always interesting.
17:55:36 <raub> I do agree
17:56:09 <raub> FYI, I like to be in a situation we have more speakers can spots. FOr may years it was the other way around
17:57:01 <raub> We also have been trying to come up with a balance between corporate and member talks and highly technical vs entry level
17:57:21 <raub> Hence the intro to linux one. We do need more of that
17:58:03 <raub> Just throwing those out for you to start thinking
17:58:18 <mamarley> To be honest, I have some issues with the way that one was managed. Certain questions from certain people caused it to go way, way, way off into the weeds about things novice Linux users don't need to worry about.
17:59:52 <raub> I agree. The problem is that it was not managed well; we should have control of it more tightly.
18:00:03 <raub> But it was a learning experience.
18:00:38 <raub> I would like to see us doing something like that again in the Fall.
18:01:08 <bdmc> Also agree. The problem was "what was the purpose and goal?" It turned into a history lesson combined with a bit of learning. Of course there was also the session on VMs, which also helped get somewhat off track.
18:02:04 <raub> As I said, it was Mk.1. Mk.2 will be better.
18:02:06 <bdmc> Easily three different sessions.
18:02:12 <bdmc> ( it was )
18:02:20 <raub> Yep
18:02:56 <bdmc> I could see us doing a history of Unix and Linux as a complete, stand-alone, session.
18:03:08 <mamarley> Yes.
18:03:16 <bdmc> Then, how to set up a VM for playing.
18:03:29 <raub> mamarley: which events do you tend to attend?
18:03:35 <bdmc> Then, finally, what to do with your VM and learning Linux.
18:03:55 <mamarley> raub: You mean like TriLUG talks? I come to almost all of them unless I have some scheduling conflict.
18:04:17 <raub> bdmc: we might be able to get a place for an entire saturday to give a proper class
18:04:41 <bdmc> True
18:04:54 <raub> mamarley: yeah. One thing I have been pushign for is for us to get more involved with other groups.
18:05:56 <raub> Incidentally, tomorrow is the ATO monthly meeting (it is on meetup). I tend to go to those meetings; bdmc also does. If you have the time, do join us
18:06:24 <raub> I offered to get some of his swag and stuff to take to SELF.
18:06:30 <mamarley> Sorry, Tuesdays are pretty much booked solid for me. :(
18:06:39 <raub> Thsi goes witht he idea of we helping each other
18:06:45 <raub> No worries
18:07:23 <raub> If you have other ideas to improve trilug, do share with us
18:08:00 <mamarley> I don't have anything else right off the bat.
18:08:25 <raub> As time goes by you will; don't worry
18:09:33 <raub> OK, we are past the meeting endtime. Does anyone have anything to add?
18:10:16 <raub> I myself will have to run
18:10:45 <mamarley> See you later!
18:10:49 <raub> #note raub Add mamarley to the steering mailing list and wiki
