Good to see you've posted on the Kantronics site. Best to keep the thread there with responses, or at least put a message there linking to this related Linux thread:

What your post doesn't state:

? Have you been able to CONNECT from the 9612+s just as packet modems under Linux ?

Just piping commands into the serial port for the 9612+ on one and from the serial port of the 9612+ on the other end should suffice as a test.
