What's this world coming to?

The ROM's aren't that expensive (although it's probably about the same as
a whole new NIC.  Again, I ask, what's this world coming to?

OTOH, that does fit into the "never fix in hardware that which can be fixed
in software" rule.

It would be a tangental (and non-RHCE) exercise, but if we need to 
burn PROM's I can do this.
