The following commands will fix his problem:
rm /dev/cdrom
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom

How'd I do? :)

He actually did provide a fairly good description, even if it mostly
consisted of cutting-and-pasting stuff -- he cut-n-pasted the relevant
stuff.  (The problem of course being that the /dev/cdrom symlink points to
/dev/scd0 instead of the correct /dev/hdc )
