No need to defrag.  The documentation for parted says that defragging 
is a waste of time.  I used parted to install RH7.2 on my mom's       
computer a few weeks ago.  It worked very well for me.                
                                                                      
I think parted is available in the environment of the RH7.2 cd        
installation.  You should be able to boot the installation cd, and run
parted on the bash console before the partitioning step of the        
installer. In any case, it is available in rescue mode, so there is no
need to make a separate parted floppy.
