[TriLUG] Question on mouse problems with a kvm and X

Tom,
I've got an older Belkin OmniCube 4-port KVM that has been working well
for me for quite a while. One thing to remember, though, is that it has
a mouse built into the switch (your omniview should be the same). Read
the documentation on the switch to find out about that mouse.
Basically, your mouse interfaces with the switch, which relays the
signals on to the machine. The circuitry in your switch emulates the
mouse's signals. That circuitry, however, only does PS/2, probably not
IMPS/2. In your X config, try using a less full featured mouse. That's
what I had to do. Try the following settings under the mouse section of
your XF86Config-4 file:
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Be warned that you might lose the function of your middle mouse button
(assuming you have a three button mouse), but the Emulate3Buttons being
set to true will make your left and right buttons do the same thing as a
middle mouse button when depressed simultaneously.
Good luck!
Regards,
