Well, I was trying to avoid the cynical response. :-/  I find it
hard to believe that they would push a technically inferior
solution (if, in fact, it is) when a better one is available.

There are already people aptifying redhat
(http://apt-rpm.tuxfamily.org/) and redhat could find itself
in danger of being left behind.  Of course, the beauty of open
source is that they don't have to be.  Once someone has figured
out how to do something, since it's GPL they can just use it
themselves.
