[TriLUG] backups revisted

I've seen warnings about tar's greater than 1Gb, but my drive can hold up to
4 Gb of data and I've filled it up with no problems (meaning I could do
restores from it later - and they actually worked!).
Note, my tape drive does its own compression via hardware so I leave off the
"z" option when doing tar's to and from the device.
