Try going about it the other way.  Find some UPS software you like, then
buy the UPS it supports.  A lot of UPSes are supported for Linux, these
days.  

Once I have time, I'm going to set up NUT: http://www.exploits.org/nut/

When I last bought a UPS, I purchased a Belkin with a serial port,
because it looks to be well supported under NUT.  If you can afford it,
the Smart-UPS series from APC has the most features for monitoring.
