I hacked one of these http://www.riovolt.com/audio/rio/riovolt_sp90.asp
(like so  http://www.geocities.com/sp90hack/) and bought one of these 
http://www.howstuffworks.com/gadget214.htm
although a cassette adapter would work for you too.  It plays mp3s from
CD-RW's, so I just make a CD every once in a while, and go.  I also rip
the WUNC stream so I can listen to my favorite shows when I can.
