If all you have is the null plugin then, despite whatever you've done,
mozilla doesn't have the plugins properly installed.

Which directory? If you're using Moz 1.0 or later, you may have put the
plugin stuff in the old directory:
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
when it should be in the *new* directory:
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.0.0/plugins
for the 1.0 release.
