Hi Errol,
I'm having very good experiences with the cheap-o PrismII-based cards
such as those listed on:
http://www.linux-wlan.com/linux-wlan/
http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/
and, in fact, this message is currently being sent using one of the
cheapest (Addtron AWP-100) of the bunch.
And the PrismII cards work with most of the 802.11b access points out
there. I've tried it out at coffee houses, libraries, campuses, etc.
and had few problems.
