Yeah, I even compiled the kernel without pcmcia support at one point to
rule that out.

I do appreciate that. I am trying kernel 2.5.50 again. I've followed
Thomas Hood's page for setting up sound
http://panopticon.csustan.edu/thood/tp600lnx.htm All the modules seem to
load properly using alsa now, but still no sound. I have found that
loading the cs4232 modules after boot up causes a kernel panic no matter
what IO and IRQ I use. Also, I believe I have tried every IO, IRQ
combination possible all to no avail. Well, I'll keep trying. Maybe your
friend will think of something that I haven't. Thanks, William
