[TriLUG] Telocity/DirecTVDSL defunct

Well, to slightly disagree with this advice, remember that anything you are
relying upon in any sales contract you should have the salesperson put in
writing on the contract, sign it and date it. If he/she refuses to do that,
then you already know that he/she is lying to you. On the other hand, if
he/she does put it in writing, you have a binding contract as long as you
give the guy at least one dollar in consideration. In order for contracts to
be binding BOTH parties must give and receive consideration (simply put
something of value---not even necessarily monetary--think wedding
contracts--even the actual value of the consideration is not in question as
long as you can get the other party to accept it [think of how beautiful the
bride has to be!] ). If both parties have received consideration and there
is nothing illegal in the contract, (there a few other requirements but
those two are the most important) the courts will more than likely uphold
the contract, but you might have to spend some money to get a judge to
enforce it (so basically you shouldn't ever depend on any contract you make
with someone who has more money than you do!!). Verbal contracts are
enforceable if you have an impartial witness to what was said. In other
words, anything that is said is only worth the paper it's written on, as my
Prof. of Business Law used to say :-)
All this from three courses in Business Law at Wake Forest Univ. School of
Business. Always get ALL verbal promises in writing, and happy holidays to
you. May your naughty or nice contract with Santa or Allah be honored in
full. If you haven't heard "Osama got run over by a reindeer" you're missing
one of this year's holiday treats!!

Concerning this whole subject of which high speed internet provider to
choose, I'm finding it extremely useful because I still haven't decided
which provider to choose. I do have one question:

How do you continue to receive your email after you get a new dsl email
address?? I've heard hints that there are some websites which can forward
all you email to your new address, but I haven't heard a thorough discussion
of that problem.

---Al Johnson.
