> We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all devices are
> created equal; that they are endowed by their Developers with
> certain unalienable rights; that among these are flexibility,
> reliability, and the pursuit of openness. That to secure these
> rights, alliances are formed among competitors, deriving their just
> powers from the consent of the customer. That whenever any form of
> monarchy becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the
> industry to alter the playing field, and to institute new rules,
> laying their foundation on such principles and organizing their
> powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect
> their Profitability and Competitiveness.

> We, therefore, the Representatives of the Information Technology
> industry, in General Agreement, Assembled, appealing to the
> customers of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in
> the Name, and by the Authority of the good users of these
> technologies, solemnly publish and declare, That these Devices are,
> and of Right ought to be Free and Independent Devices; that they are
> Absolved from all Allegiance to individual Operating Systems, and
> that all technological connection between them and individual
> companies, is and ought to be totally by the free choice of the
> customer; and that as Free and Independent Companies, they have full
> Power to extend applications, mobilize Employees, contract
> Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things
> which Interconnected Devices may of right do. And for the support of
> this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of
> innovation in the marketplace, we pledge to drive, support and
> promote interoperability through an Open Standards based ecosystem.
